A Canadian news report (24/2) quotes Toronto’s Cardinal Thomas Collins as stating in a sermon on Sunday, “You know the old saying: If you think you’ve found the perfect church, join it. Of course, then it won’t be the perfect church any more.” The report tells that he also “likes to remind those in the pews that Moses didn’t descend the mountain with ‘the Ten Suggestions’ in his arms.”
Cardinal Collins is indeed a fine man of the Church. I had the pleasure of sharing a platform with him at a C. S. Lewis Conference in Alberta a few years ago. He impressed me with his intelligence, his wit and his love for the Church.
