It’s good to be able to say something positive about the BBC. The Beeb, as it is called in Blighty, has recently aired a half hour documentary on Chesterton’s Father Brown, hosted and narrated by Ann Widdicombe, the former Conservative government minister who is a convert to Catholicism. Here’s a link to the “listen again” feature on the BBC iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/b010xzzf/
Dear Joseph,
A.N Wilson-he’s always calling GK ‘slapdash’. An attempt to rubbish him. And I saw his review of Ian Ker’s book in The Spectator. Really, very terrible-painting as a dirty, gross anti-Semite.
We both know what the probelm is. He called the catholic Church, ‘that church’ . As though it is just one of many ‘churches’.
But he really is a nasty piece of work.
On a more positive note-Anne Widdecombe.
She really has been taken to heart by the Britsh people (with her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing).
A really formidable intellect.
Chris Hitchens ran away from her in a discussion (left the studio with ‘catholicism is child abuse’), but I suspect, in fact I know, he was frightened of debating with her.
In the this same debate she also made Stephen look very small Fry.
With her conversion we have a real asset to the church.
Thanks
