Note the things this anonymous blogger says about Dale Ahlquist, president of the American Chesterton Society, and note the dialogue that ensues in the combox.
The only background you need is that this blogger likes Chesterton, but tries to square that with his admiration for and defense of Obama, contraception, Andrew Sullivan and Buddhism.
He’s got his work cut out for him, but, you see, it’s all Dale Ahlquist’s fault.
I should add, however, that the blogger ends up showing a lot of common sense as the comments continue. He’s a good writer and may develop into an excellent Chestertonian.
A very revealing series of exchanges!
The anonymous blogger is in severe need of some homework assignments in several areas – not the least of which is international affairs. By implying that Christopher Check’s remarks on Lepanto are somehow grist for the neo-cons, he has revealed that he has not read one page of Chronicles Magazine or examined any of the work of the Rockford Institute; both have been stalwarts in the battle against neo-con imperialism !
As for Dale, he’s survived worse by better, but it still hurts to see him dragged into a review of another’s book just to be terribly miscast as some kind of war-mongering, 21st century heresy-hunter.
I salute Kevin for taking on this defense of Dale in such a respectful manner; someone has to wade through this kind of writing to offer correction, and I’m glad he’s there to spare the rest of us who’ll happily read Mr. Ahlquist -and Mr. Chesteron – directly without the the prism of religiously- painted secularism.
