As the father of Leo, an eleven-year-old boy with Down syndrome who is one of the greatest blessings in my life, I am horrified by the systematic genocide which exterminates ninety per cent of children with Down syndrome. And let’s emphasize the word “genocide”. The destruction of these children is the product of genetic testing. If the extra chromosome is detected the children are considered untermenschen, sub-humans to be killed at the whim of their parents.
With the shadow of this genocide in mind, I was greatly heartened by an article on the saintly scientist, Jéröme Lejeune, who dedicated himself to the protection of the unborn, having discovered the extra chromosome which distinguishes children with Down’s from the rest of us.
As the wicked world bathes in the blood of the innocents it has massacred, the goodness of Jéröme Lejeune shines forth as a candle of hope and love in the darkness.
