You might also want to give ‘Seraphine’ a try. It’s about the life of Seraphine de Senlis, a scullery maid who was a devout Catholic (though mentally on the edge) and who painted in private. A German art collector recognised the merit of her work and brought her a brief time of fame and fortune (she is a recognized master of the Naive school) until the 1929 Crash pushed her over the edge and into an asylum. She never painted again.
