I’ve just returned from a highly enjoyable weekend in St. Louis at which I gave a talk on Evelyn Waugh and the Tradional Mass at St. Louis Abbey. I had the additional pleasure of getting to know some of the Benedictine monks at the abbey and spent some quality time with my good friend, Kevin O’Brien.
Upon returning to my desk, I received notification that EWTN will be airing the first hour-long special on the Catholic vision of The Lord of the Rings to coincide with the release of The Hobbit movie. The special, which I hosted, will be aired at 11pm (eastern) this Saturday and again at 4pm (eastern) on Sunday.
Thanks for c0ming to St. Louis! I enjoyed your presentation very much. it is hard not to feel as forlorn as Waugh did about the Mass, especially when one witnesses some of the abuses of the ritual.
I think I might prefer your special to actually seeing the film(s). Jackson ruined LOTR for me. I could go into a detailed explanation of how that happened, but it’s been done to death already. I just don’t want to give him a chance to do it again with The Hobbit.
Oh darn I missed it. Will there be more? Hopefully there will be reruns.
